So you’ve just had your wooden floors done and now it’s time for their first clean. Before you reach for the detergent there are a few things you should know about the day-to-day cleaning of your floors.

Your floors are now sealed which means that they have their own defence against anything penetrating into the wood fibres. All the dirt is merely lying on top of the floor so there is no need for any intense scrubbing.

There are a lot of expensive floor cleaning products on the market but we’re going to let you in on a little secret.. they’re a waste of money. While they may smell amazing there are a lot of better ways to fragrance your home and there certainly is a better way to clean your floors.

So what is the most effective and cost savvy way to care for your floors?

White vinegar.

I know you’re probably thinking that that’s an old wives tale, but we kid you not, it really is the best way.

The vinegar cuts through any stubborn dirt, including fatty deposits, that may have accumulated on top of the sealer. It not only provides a gentle but thorough clean but it also extends the life of your floors. By using a soft mop with lukewarm water and vinegar it ensures that you will not be dousing your floor in cleaner thinking that you’re doing it a favour when in fact you are doing more harm than good.
