There are 3 services that we offer to bring your floors back to life. We have listed them below in order of how damaged your floors are, starting from the least damaged option:
- Floor Rejuvenation aka Buff and Coat
- Floor Restoration aka Sand and Seal
- Floor Resurrection aka Relay, Sand and Seal
We also specialise in Deck Restorations.
A relay becomes essential when the parquet woodblocks become loose and the glue used to attach the blocks to the cement loses its adhesive properties and becomes brittle.
Parquet flooring adds a unique design element to any room, especially with all the different parquet options to choose from. Parquet wears well and can last for years, 10 – 15 years, or even longer, if care is taken.
However, if parquet flooring gets damaged by water, there is really only one solution; to replace the affected tiles or area. Since parquet is made of a thin veneer of wood; sanding and refinishing is not an option, as it could be with traditional hardwood flooring. But that does not mean you cannot have your parquet flooring restored back to its former glory! A relay, sand and seal will rejuvenate your parquet floors and leave them looking like a brand new floor!
Water damage on your parquet flooring is not the only reason to have a relay, sand and seal done to your floors.
A relay, sand and seal is also used when the parquet blocks have had a floor covering, like a carpet, for example, over them. The reason for this is because more often than not the blocks become attached to the underlay beneath the carpet and when the carpet is removed the parquet blocks come away with the underlay. It is very rare that all the parquet blocks beneath the carpet will have to be relayed, but it is only possible to determine the extent of the relay once the carpet has been lifted.
Here are just a few of the benefits of having your parquet floors professionally refinished:
- A beautiful floor. Having your parquet flooring resurrected by professionals means that all those scratches, gritty surfaces and that lacklustre look will disappear.
- It will improve the value of your home.
- Adds character and an elegant finish to your home.
- It is a durable flooring option.
- It has a long life span.
- Parquet flooring is a timeless flooring option.
What types of wood can this be done to?
Any parquet blocks can be relayed, sanded and sealed in order to rejuvenate them.
When is this process necessary?
A relay becomes essential when the parquet woodblocks become loose and the glue used to attach the blocks to the cement loses its adhesive properties and becomes brittle.
What does this process entail?
- The loose and/or swollen blocks are uplifted, cleaned, trimmed, if necessary, and then relayed. When lifting and relaying the blocks we make a special point of ensuring that the blocks go back in exactly the same spot that they were lifted from in order to minimize the trimming of blocks and the filling of gaps between blocks, thus saving both time and money.
- After this process follows the Sand and Seal
- We start with a rough sand, which removes all the old sealers, oils, grime and waxes that have accumulated over time and gets the floor down to the bare wood again.
- Next we do a medium sand, followed by a fine sand. These make sure that the floor is smooth and ready for the sealer to be applied.
- The next step is to apply 3 coats of sealer in either a satin, or gloss finish.
- The floors get a light sand after the first and second coats of sealer.
- This fully restores the floors and leaves them with a smooth and even finish. This is a full overhaul designed to completely resurrect your floors.
